Voyage Insurance: what to consider
Voyage insurance on this page means standard cargo cover for a single defined movement. It suits an occasional shipment, a new trading route or a consignment outside an existing annual programme. If you instead need a vessel’s delivery voyage or hull war cover, identify that separately so the enquiry reaches the correct product.
Define where the journey starts and ends
Supply dispatch and final delivery locations, sea ports, transshipment and inland legs. Explain planned storage and expected movement dates. A voyage label does not automatically include every delay, diversion or indefinite stay at a warehouse.
Place the cover before relying on it
Provide shipment facts in time for review before the risk begins. If goods have departed, disclose their status and any known incident; do not assume retrospective cover. The agreed attachment clause and binding confirmation determine when insurance starts.
Cover to discuss for Voyage Insurance
- The declared cargo interest during the insured single transit.
- Handling and transport legs specifically included in the quoted scope.
- Specified valuation and accepted extensions for the movement.
Limits, exclusions and related cover
This cargo illustration does not insure the vessel, charterer’s liabilities or a general war-risk programme. Packing, inherent vice, delay and excluded territories require review. A diverted route or extended storage may need separate agreement.
Prepare your Voyage Insurance enquiry
- Cargo description, insured value, invoice and packing details.
- Dispatch / delivery addresses, ports, transshipment and transport mode.
- Expected dates, Incoterms, current shipment status and previous losses.
Start your Voyage Insurance application and save the information securely. For an existing incident, use the Claims Centre and follow the reporting requirements in your policy.
