Additional war-risk cover

A rate-controlled war-risk calculation

Enter the vessel’s proposed insured value, risk rate, route and coverage period. For a purely hypothetical rate of 0.50%, USD 10 million × 0.50% = USD 50,000. The 0.50% example is not a current market quote or an offered MarineEnergyCover war-risk rate.

A quoted rate must be tied to its period and geographic scope. A percentage for one transit is not comparable to a 12-month arrangement simply because the vessel value is the same. This calculator does not infer or prorate a rate from voyage duration.

Separate war risks from standard hull cover

War-risk cover must be identified in the applicable contract rather than inferred from a standard hull policy. Insured perils, trading restrictions, cancellation provisions and excluded circumstances depend on the chosen wording. The Nordic Plan is one example of a framework that addresses war risks separately; it is not automatically the wording for this enquiry.

Reference: Nordic Marine Insurance Plan, Chapter 15: war-risk insurance. This reference describes its own framework and does not establish MarineEnergyCover’s authority or the terms of an individual placement.

Disclose the actual voyage

  • Vessel identity, ownership, management, flag and crew information.
  • Proposed route, ports, transit window and any anticipated deviation or waiting.
  • Cargo, operational profile, security measures and reporting arrangements.
  • Existing hull and war-risk terms, required limits and the source and period of any supplied rate.

When to select the dedicated Hormuz calculator

Use the Strait of Hormuz selection when you want to see the website’s specific 5% indicative formula. Use this general war-risk calculator when the relevant risk rate must be entered for a different or individually assessed enquiry. Neither calculator is a navigational safety assessment or confirmation of sanctions compliance.

Common questions

What war-risk rate should I enter?

Enter the rate supplied for your enquiry, with its period and assumptions. If you do not have one, contact a specialist; an arbitrary rate does not create a usable quote.

Does war-risk cover include every hostile event?

Do not assume that it does. Review the defined perils, exclusions, territorial restrictions and any separately required extensions in the actual policy.

Can I save the result for an internal budget?

Yes. Save Estimate downloads the current inputs and indicative breakdown locally. The saved estimate is not an insurance certificate or evidence of binding.

Indicative premium estimate only. Final premium and coverage are subject to underwriting approval, vessel specifications, route, claims history, policy limits, deductibles, capacity availability and final policy terms.
